  • Path of Exile

For those of you who enjoyed Diablo II, it's loot and what was then complex gem/glyph upgrades, Path of Exile is a free to play game on Steam that has been updated since 2013 with constant free expansions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_of_Exile

It's simple to download from Steam and, after a bit of YouTube reviews and a bit of game play, it was obvious to me that this is what Diablo III should have been. I immediately bought a supporter pack for $240.00 that provides cosmetic improvements, a shirt and a hoodie and, comment that microtransactions are cosmetic only and, they appear to be fully against pay to win. I'll emphasize, you don't have to buy anything.

The complexity of this game is on another level and, it's recommended that you look at builds to plan out your character before you start allocating skill points making this an extraordinary flexible game in terms of character development. And, item acquisition - through trade and multiple means not the least being playing the game, killing monsters and, creation and modification game play is also complex. In short, you have to actually spend time figuring things out to optimize your character and, in a very good and rewarding way.

Until Balder's Gate 3 comes out and, probably long after, this is a game that appears to be supported ongoing with new expansions and downloads and is absolutely the best back for the $0 buck out there.
