Armed driver scares off carjackers in Midlothian parking lot

Panther was at the Brookshire's in Midlothian and was waiting in the car in the parking lot while his wife went inside. That's when he saw two people, later identified by police as 21-year-old Caleb Jefferson and 17-year-old Niyah Williams, approach. At first, Panther thought Jefferson might have been someone he knew.

“He actually said, ‘Man, I can't believe you're up here. I haven't seen you in so long. What are you doing?’” he recalled.

Panther says that's when Jefferson quickly got in the passenger seat. And that's when the conversation took a turn.

“He comes up and tells me, ‘I've got a gun. I'll blow your head off, Panther recalled. “I said, Whoa, dude.' And he said, 'the next words out of your mouth I'm going to send you to heaven.’ At that point, it was almost like second nature to me.

Panther, an experienced gun owner and concealed carry permit holder, reached for a bag and pulled out his 40 caliber handgun and pointed it at Jefferson.

Panther then had an answer for the remark about going to heaven.

“I said, ‘well, let's both go together.’”

Both suspects got out of the car. Panther kept his gun trained on them until they ran into the store. Shortly after, Midlothian police arrived and eventually took both of the suspects in custody after a struggle.

Missoula math prof 'made use of my handgun to tip the balance of power' in home invasion

A Missoula math professor thought his dog was chasing his cat around his home Monday morning when he heard some commotion from inside the house. When he started hearing louder-than-usual sirens and noticed a rapidly growing police presence around his property, however, his inclination shifted.

“I briefly opened my front door and learned authorities were seeking the whereabouts of one or more individuals,” Josef "Joe" Crepeau wrote in an open letter to the community. “My interpretation of the noise quickly changed. I felt I should convince myself the subject or subjects of the search were not [the cause of the noise] so I decided to search my home for intruders.”

Crepeau, 58, provided his letter to the Missoulian and elaborated in person Tuesday.

He said he grabbed his 9 mm Beretta and began the search, starting from the top floor, as he reminded himself of training protocols and worked to "ramp myself down." In the basement, he saw an open door that led outside and became more cautious.

"I then made use of my handgun to tip the balance of power in my favor," Crepeau, a resident of Missoula since 1976, wrote in his letter.

CARIBOU (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A 27-year-old likely high on hallucinogens chose the wrong home to trespass Tuesday.
Caribou police said they got a call at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday from a homeowner on Lombard Road reporting that a man had tried to get into his house.
He told police he had the intruder held at gunpoint.

The homeowner told police he had heard someone trying to get into his house from an attached garage, so he grabbed his gun and went out to find the intruder in the garage.

Police said officers arrived and found Dakota Michaud of Caribou, who they believe had entered the garage and pounded on the door, trying to get into the house, which woke the homeowner.

There were indications that Michaud was under the influence of some type of hallucinogenic drug at the time of the incident, police said.
Michaud was charged with criminal trespass. He was bailed.

75-year-old man shoots, kills woman trying to rob him, mother says

The woman who was shot and killed Wednesday night by a 75-year-old man was identified Friday as Shaneka Goldsmith, 32.

Hazel Kendrix said her son, Henry Bell was being attacked by three people on their front porch Wednesday night when she ran outside with a handgun.

"Just grabbed him and going on him, trying to go through his pockets and things," Kendrix said. "He was hollering, 'Shoot them,' and I tried to shoot them, but I couldn't shoot them because my arm was too weak. So he said, 'Give me the gun,' and I hand him the gun and when I did, he went to shoot them, and they went to flying."

Bell shot Goldsmith, who died at the scene.

According to police, the homeowner tried to get the woman to leave his property but she was able to force her way inside of the home.

She was then shot in the lower part of her body. She is expected to survive.

HCSO investigating after man shot at robbery suspects in west Harris Co.

An attempted robbery turned into a shootout between a pair of suspects and a husband protecting his wife, according to The Harris County Sheriff's Office.

                  ...

Detectives believe the suspects were "juggers," who followed the couple from a bank across the street.

                  ...

An investigator said one man pulled out a gun and demanded the woman's purse.

Her husband was on the other side of the car, and pulled out his weapon. Moments later, shots were exchanged.

                  ...

The husband fired four rounds, hitting both men, according to deputies.
Pete (just learned that a "jugger" is apparently someone who tries to mug you after you leave a bank or ATM)

I've never heard the term. Good shooting on the part of the husband; four shots, and hits on two assailants is no mean feat.

This is Chicago, so I'm betting real money she gets charged with manslaughter at the minimum.

I'm not sure that is a defensible "proportionate" response.

Heh, F that. Within its range, a knife is more lethal than a handgun. When you threaten the life of someone, even with a pen knife, lethal response is appropriate.
