  • Older People Shared Fake News on Facebook More Than Others in 2016 Race, Study Says

When it came to sharing fake news on Facebook during the 2016 election, no age group was quite as active as those aged 65 and older, according to a new study.

The study, published Wednesday in Science Advances, quantifies how aggressive seniors were in spreading misinformation, though the findings suggest that sharing such stories was relatively rare.

On average, American Facebook users aged 65 and older posted seven times as many articles from fake news websites as adults 29 and younger, according to the study. And that was true regardless of ideology, education level or political affiliation: Older users just tended to share misinformation more.

Adults 29 and younger were all on porn sites.

I don't think that older people are as discriminating as younger people as to what they believe. They pretty much think of the internet as "the news," and so they believe it.

Older people are easily duped by internet "news" and forwards. My mom is constantly fooled by bullshit forwards she receives. I have given up on debunking that crap, since I did so for probably 15 years...

The funny thing with my mom is that she can INSTANTLY spot fake news if it's pro-Democrat, but if it's pro-Republican, she falls for it hook, line, and sinker and forwards it in a heartbeat.

I got a bunch of older bar mates, who are very conservative, and want that wall built. They where all in for pizzagate. It concerns me when they want to get my take on other conspiracies. I'm talking out there stuff too. Like UFO's and things of that nature. I respect the guys, and try to change the subject.
