Well any law that ensures that guns only go to responsible people would be objected to by the right as a second amendment claim and by the left by a fourteenth amendment claim.

A hunting guide and his client accidentally shot each other and then blamed it on undocumented migrants, police in the US have said.

Officers attended the scene at a remote south Texas ranch, near to the Mexico border, in early January, finding the two men bleeding from gunshot wounds. A second guide was involved in the incident, but escaped without injury.

The casualties, guide Walker Daughtery, 26, and client Edwin Roberts, 59, and the other guide, Michael Bryant, told police they suspected the shooters were undocumented immigrants they had seen on the ranch earlier in their trip.

Their story was shared thousands of times online after Texas Commissioner of Agriculture and Donald Trump ally Sid Miller wrote about it on Facebook.

But police and a grand jury have now concluded the men were lying about the incident, and actually shot each other.

Investigators believe that Mr Daughtery became paranoid that illegal immigrants were inside a vehicle with Mr Roberts and his wife and attempted to get inside without saying anything, prompting Mr Roberts to shoot at the door.

Mr Daughtery then ran back to his cabin to grab his gun and to get backup from Mr Bryant, and together they opened fire on the truck.

Mr Daughtery and Mr Roberts were both struck by bullets, to the chest and to the arm respectively. It is believed that Mr Daughtery shot Mr Roberts, his client, and Mr Bryant shot Mr Daughtery, his colleague.

Police told news channel CBS 7 they are conducting ballistic testing to determine which guns fired which bullets, but they cannot test the bullet that struck Mr Daughtery as it is too close to his heart to be safely removed.

Mr Daughtery and Mr Bryant have both been indicted on third-degree felony charges, punishable by up to five years in prison.

After the alleged attack, a family friend setup a GoFundMe page stating that Mr Daughtery and his group were involved in a shoot-out with some illegal immigrants that were trying to steal his RV with his clients still inside it.

The appeal, to help pay for Mr Daughtery's medical bills as he is uninsured, raised over $26,000 (more than £20,000) before it was shut down.

Mr Daughtery's fiancée, who was at the ranch on the night of the shooting, told CBS 7 she could not comment on the case until it was completed, but said the couple had had multiple encounters with undocumented immigrants in the past month. She claimed they had had hundreds of dollars'-worth of supplies stolen by them from the ranch.

Although the area is well known for undocumented migrants from Mexico crossing over the border, Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez said he had never seen violence like the alleged incident before. He said he was sceptical of the story from the beginning, and suggested the hunters were paranoid.

He told CBS 7: “I mean border patrol are experts in tracking in this area, we trust what they say because that’s all they do on a daily basis, and they didn’t find no sign, no indication that there was anybody in or out of that area that night.

“By the looks of it right now, we believe that during the shooting, with all the commotion and confusion going on, we believe that Michael shot Walker and Walker had shot Edwin,” Mr Dominguez added.

Mr Dominguez added that it took emergency services nearly two hours to arrive at the remote ranch, but fortunately one of the men’s wives was a nurse and was able to keep both men from bleeding out.

He said he wants ranchers and residents in the area to know they have nothing to fear at this time "regarding any violence from across the border".

Mr Miller, who became infamous in the US during last year’s election campaign when he called Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton a "c***" in a Tweet, deleted his initial Facebook post about the incident after police said they were suspicious of the hunters’ story.

Mr Miller’s initial post included two pictures of Mr Daugherty, one of which showed him in his hospital bed.

“The aliens were ambushing the RV that Walker and his wife. He was shot while trying to protect his hunters from the attack. Walker is a man of God and is now a hero,” Mr Miller wrote.

“This is why we need the wall and to secure our borders,” he added, in the post.

In addition to criticising the commissioner for spreading "fake news" people commenting on social media and local news outlets declared it ironic that it was actually paranoia about border security, not a lack of border security, that appears to have landed the two men in hospital.

10,000 Rounds Of Ammo And 25 Guns Were Seized From A Teenager Posting Far-Right Memes On iFunny And Discord

An 18-year-old Ohio man charged Monday with threatening a federal officer allegedly posted extensively online about mass shootings, specifically targeting Planned Parenthood. According to an affidavit, the bulk of Justin Olsen’s radicalized content was posted under the name ArmyOfChrist on meme-hosting app iFunny.

Federal agents seized 15 rifles, 10 semiautomatic pistols, and 10,000 rounds of ammunition during the arrest earlier this month.

Investigators said Olsen admitted that he was posting on iFunny under the name ArmyOfChrist and told the FBI during his arrest that his posts were supposed to be a joke. He described his posts about shooting federal agents as “a hyperbolic conclusion based on the results of the Waco siege.”

The FBI began investigating the iFunny account in February. As it gained more subscribers, Olsen created a Discord server to privately interact with his followers — a common phenomenon in radicalized online spaces. It was there that he allegedly threatened federal officers.

In a post on his iFunny account, Olsen wrote, "A few people have requested this recently, and I think it will allow for a better dialogue, so I have created a Discord server."

The ArmyOfChrist iFunny account has over 5,000 subscribers and is still up, but several of the posts on the account advertising Olsen's Discord server were taken down on Tuesday.

The ArmyOfChrist server had around 40 users. It appears it was taken down after inquires from BuzzFeed News.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, a spokesperson for iFunny said directing users from an iFunny account to a Discord server could be against user guidelines, depending on how it's done.

"iFunny is the most influential mobile app among young adults in the US," the spokesperson said. "We have over 10 million unique US users in app per month. It's approximately equal to 25% of the young adults population of the US (from 43 million young adults as per government stats). We assume that percent of the potential criminals among them has 100% correlation with the percent of the potential criminals among the whole society."

BuzzFeed News has reached out to Discord for comment.

In chat logs viewed by BuzzFeed News, Olsen’s ArmyOfChrist account talked to other users in June about the cult leader David Koresh and the FBI’s 1993 siege near Waco, Texas, writing, “In conclusion, shoot every federal agent on sight.”

A user named Dismemberedeyes replied, “Unfortunately, I am under 18 and live with my liberal anti-gun parents.”

Olsen then shared a Post Malone song and wrote, “I just turned 18, I’m in the process of building an [AR-15] right now.”

The conversation continued, with users asking one another about who owned guns and which kinds they had.

“Good luck, I’m moving to Austin for college, but I’m building a gun to keep in a lock box down there in case shit hits the fan while I’m away at college,” Olsen said. “I can’t keep guns on campus unfortunately.”

“When trump wins again people will likely riot in the streets,” Dismemberedeyes said further down in the chat. “Antifa will start attacking people even more.”

As for the content the ArmyOfChrist account was posting on iFunny, many of the posts are white nationalist and far-right memes common on message boards like 4chan and 8chan. The ArmyOfChrist account was also using iFunny as a blogging platform of sorts, posting text-only JPGs.

In the 200 posts on the account, which have been viewed by BuzzFeed News, Olsen raged against feminists, progressives, the LGBTQ community, and religious and ethnic minorities, and repeatedly called for the establishment of a Christian ethnostate. Many of the memes he was posting were updated riffs on the Crusades, fantasizing about a religious war between Christians and Muslims.

One meme on his page read, “Repub if you would make an ethnostate in Montana with your male followers.” Another read, “Me thanking God that they put the gay bar and Planned Parenthood right next to each other.” In a text-only post he wrote, “American imperialism is the will of God, and the Western Hemisphere is a good start. I would absolutely die to eradicate Socialism and its variants.”

Federal prosecutors said they decided to act this month in light of recent mass shootings. After his arrest, officers raided Olsen’s father’s home in Youngstown, Ohio, where Olsen was living.

Federal agents found a machete in Olsen’s car, 300 rounds of ammunition near the stairs leading up to his room, and another 10,000 rounds of ammunition in his bedroom. He also had camouflage clothing, camouflage backpacks, rifle cases, and a gun vault that contained several AR-15–style rifles and shotguns.

Olsen’s Discord server is still active, with users on Tuesday dropping in news articles about Olsen’s arrest. One user named Lun wrote, “Welp hopefully what's his face gets a decent lawyer.”
I'm sure he was stockpiling assault weapons for perfectly lawful purposes like self-defense and recreation!

I had to go to your Buzzfeed link to see the pics of his posts for context and state of mind. Two questions: (1) was his one sentence threat a crime or protected speech and, (2) what would happen to a kid like that on this forum?

This kid had over 5000 followers. How many of them share the same views? I think he crossed the line. But, where is the bright line from legally being critical of government or, a group of people to becoming a criminal from posting a thought online?

Agreed Pete. These type of comments are all over the internet by, literally, the millions. It's obviously hyperbole, but the government agents got butt-hurt and decided they were going to make him pay at all costs. Ironically, they proved his point about government overreach and strengthened his point about the Waco Extermination. In other words, the government has too much power and is only too willing to abuse it.

Oh, and by "all costs" I meant the taxpayer will pay. Must be nice to have ZERO consequences for you actions.

This comment was no more a "real threat" than the former CNN commentator Reze Aslan saying "all Trump supporters must be eradicated".

The case would be stronger if an individual was threatened. As is, all I can say is that it’s this kind of case that makes one scared to even say anything bad about government for fear of prosecution, incarceration, loss of property, business, and so on. It’s really Orwellian when you’re afraid to speak you mind for fear of big brother’s response.

I hate to give government too much credit and to say the intention of making this kid an example is to have a chilling effect on free speech, but intentional or not, that's what it does. For now I'll stick with my original assessment of this is just what happens when the government gets butt-hurt and abuses its power. Does it really matter which it is when the result is the same at the end of the day?

The irony is that, like everything government does, the result will be the opposite. If you chill free speech and blowing off steam online where there's no specific threat, people will start meeting in person and that's when really bad things will happen.

The sheriff said victim 1 was being attacked by the suspect inside a home. Victim 2 watched as victim 1 lowered children from a second-story window to save them from the attacking suspect. Victim 1 began screaming for help.

The neighbor, victim 2, rushed over to help victim 1 remove the children from the home, the sheriff said.

The suspect reportedly came out of the house to approach victim 2, who tried to deescalate the situation. The sheriff said the suspect continued to escalate, so victim 2 retreated from the suspect's yard.

That's when the suspect shot at victim 2, Nocco said. Victim 2, the neighbor, was not hit and returned fire, hitting and killing the suspect.

"All indications here, victim 2 was a hero," Sheriff Nocco said. "Victim number 2... was helping another victim, who was a victim of domestic violence, make sure those school children were safe."

Nocco praised the neighbor for standing up for the victims of the attack.
