  • Stores and restaurants out in the 'burbs where I live have those rules, too. It's common and sensible. Like I said, just buy something cheap.

    • Under the #BoycottStarbucks hashtag on Twitter, people accused the chainís employees of racially profiling the men, and criticized police for arresting them when they refused to leave.

Yes, that's the point of the rule. But as this manager and Starbucks is finding out, this was a stupid hill to die on. Sometimes and act of good will buys future customers.

        • I want to know what led to the manager asking them to leave. Were they being belligerent jerks or was the manager quick to pull the trigger? I'd much rather quietly let them use the bathroom than call the cops on them if I were running the cafe, but they could also buy something cheap and we'd call it a day. I'd tell them, "Come on, guys. Just buy a coffee or a muffin and we're good."

I don't like to get cops involved for anything unless it's absolutely necessary.

White people who frequent Starbucks are probably going to lean far more liberal than not but from what I've seen, the white customers quickly came to the defense of the 2 black guys.

            • Bathrooms are for paying costumers, and so would be lingering, if it became an issue.

              • By the video there was plenty enough room for other costumers to sit, so it was an attitude problem from the manager or the two men.

                  • Can we assume that the manager who kicked these guys out was racist? I don't think so. It's possible that was the reason behind the heavy-handedness, sure.

Like Beemer said, it could be a problem with what the two men were doing (or not doing) or the manager but it could also be a combination. We could be seeing an instance of 3 assholes.

The funny thing is, it's not a Starbucks problem, it's a cultural problem.

No, it's neither. It's a problem with that one employee and only maybe. That is, unless you're criticizing the whole outrage culture. It's asinine to go after an entire company for the acts of one employee who may or may not have had justification for doing what she did. (We don't know all of the facts.) The company's policy isn't racist and it's practical. Boycotting and protesting the entire chain is ridiculously overreacting.

                            • Boycotts and protests are planned at Starbucks nationwide Wednesday morning, including some stores in Chicago.

WTF? Talk about a gross overreaction. People are so quick to try to gather others to FORCE an outcome after an overreaction.

                              • What do they want Starbucks to do that it's not already doing?

                                1. Fire the guy. Check
                                2. Train the rest of the workforce. Check
                                3. Fly the CEO out to meet the victims. Check
                                4. Publicly and unequivocally apologize. Check

So what the hell do these people want?

Pete (hates it when prostestors have no fucking clue what they're doing)
