Sounds like a win win, though people on the left are complaining they want those against their marriages to be forced to issue their marriage licenses and this lets them off the hook. Jesus H Christ, some people are never happy.

Imagine that, government gets out of something and everyone wins.

There shouldn't be any such thing as a license to marry and I've been arguing that for years. People who are or were unable to obtain the license to marry were fighting the wrong fight. This is the right move. Fight against the license itself. The government has no right to tell people whom they can and can't marry and has no right to force those who wish to marry to obtain official permission before doing so.
I'm for defending all rights for everyone.

I've argued this for years. Why does the church conflate marriage with a license? Now go find out how many Christians will be willing to do away with marriage licenses. Licenses should be eliminated but until then, they should be issued to everyone who seeks them.

What a back-asswards way to come to the correct conclusion.

Pete (isn't even sure he can be happy about this)

Take it where you can get it.

Even though this proposal will go nowhere legislatively, it unfortunately confirms all the stereotypes about the prejudiced inbred rednecks up there. Alabama will be dragged kicking and screaming into the modern world.

Props on finding a way to criticize the liberals and government while carefully sparing any mention of the prejudiced conservative lawmakers behind the bill.

I hate to say it dude, but I do not like your generalization of people. Not everyone lives in as much of a multicultural society as some of us. People do have there own viewpoints. To stereotype them as "prejudiced inbred rednecks" is kinda fucking offensive.
"Kicking and screaming into the modern world", well maybe they should have learned that, on social issues...the laws shouldn't have been there to begin with.

If they propose a bill to eliminate marriage licenses because they are scared of gay marriage, then they are prejudiced. The Deep South has a reputation for it, and they're usually the first ones to throw it around. I call it like I see it.

Why would I mention the obvious? And thanks for proving my point by immediately bitching about a victory. Or is it just jot a satisfying victory for you because now you don't get to use threats of force and violence against people you don't like?

                            What victory?

                            I'm just bitching about you.

It's not a victory to not have to seek gov approval for a marriage so people don't go through misery in what should otherwise be a happy moment?

Can't you put down your bible for 2 seconds and just admit this one time less government is actually better?

It's a little dramatic to say a $100 marriage license and 3-day waiting period is misery.

If you wanna talk about real misery, talk to me about a real wife.
