  • NYC Mayor Guarantees Comprehensive Health Care for All in Historic Surprise Announcement

New York City will begin guaranteeing comprehensive health care to every single resident regardless of someone's ability to pay or immigration status, an unprecedented plan that will protect the more than half-a-million New Yorkers currently using the ER as a primary provider, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
    It'll cost about $100 million

If 500 thousand are using the ER as the primary provider and the city has to pick up the tab on a significant percentage of those, this might be a money saver.

They speak in bulletpointese leftist nutjob drivel. It doesn't matter. Nothing is as great a motivator as the chance to truly be free.

By his own numbers (600,000 uninsureds, $100M) he's allotted $166 per person he hopes to cover.

Pete (doesn't think the math remotely works out even if he adds "per year" to his number)

        Maybe per week. Maybe.

Jared (has met far too many people who just can't be bothered to see a doctor until they feel bad, and so doesn't anticipate much change in behavior)

It's absolute bullshit. It reminds me of the original estimates for Medicare. If they actually try to implement this, the costs will be enormously more and they will regularly grow by leaps and bounds. Even the socialists in Vermont couldn't find a way to make it work.
