  • San Francisco passes ban on e-cigarette sales, a US first

San Francisco will become the first US city to effectively ban e-cigarette sales, after the city's board of supervisors unanimously voted in favor of an ordinance Tuesday.

The ordinance says "no person shall sell or distribute an electronic cigarette to a person in San Francisco" unless that product has undergone premarket review by the US Food and Drug Administration. To date, none have.
This includes sales in brick-and-mortar stores, as well as online sales shipped to a San Francisco address. The ordinance also applies to flavored tobacco products in addition to e-cigarettes. The measure does not ban the use of vapes among people 21 and older.
"This is a decisive step to help prevent another generation of San Francisco children from becoming addicted to nicotine," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera in a statement, following the vote.

They banned menthol cigarettes. Those things are wretched!

So I guess people will just have to smoke regular cigarettes? Fucking idiots.

Honestly, I prefer that. Butts on the ground are way better than the mounds of plastic juul parts littering the woods around the high school by my house.

you can still buy and smoke the electronic things in SF, but only if they are filled with cannabis extract instead of nicotine.

Honestly, that, I have a problem with. Demonizing one addictive chemical over another intoxicating chemical is asinine. I have a problem with the disposable plastic delivery devices along with the well-established epidemiological evidence that itís resulting in a massive upswing in popular unhealthy behavior among young people which will result in a substantial public health burden on the populace. But saying itís ok for weed. Thatís just bullshit ó either these things are not ok or theyíre ok; picking favorites undermines any other position one holds.

                I don't get it either.
Plus the whole e'cig thing to me is a mess. Atleast when I smoke it's in a regulated way, by myself and society. These kids are just smoking nonstop, and with stronger or different substances.

The behavior outside a bar is noticeably different. The THC vape pen user takes 1-2 drags and goes back inside (or passes the pen to a friend), maybe twice a night. The e-cig user makes 5-8 giant vape puffs per minute, for 5-10 minutes, twice an hour.

The city is tiny and there will be a line of tobacco vape shops in Daly City just across the border.

Dude, there's human waste and drug paraphernalia and crazy homeless people everywhere in San Francisco. This is the least of their worries.
